Paladins


Paladins in the World:
Oath of Devotion- These Paladins are usually holy warriors of large, well established and accepted religions. They receive a large amount of support from their church and most populations love them. However, they must earn this adoration through difficult crusades sponsored by their religion and they are expected to succeed or die trying. A Devoted Paladin who gives up a holy quest is likely to be expelled from his order as a False Paladin unless they are able to bring to light new information proving that the quest would not further the cause of their god.

Oath of the Ancients- These Paladins are often servants of the wild, and thus tend to be out of the public eye. They are more likely to be found in the company of druids than clerics, and act as stewards of nature, often acting on nature’s behalf to ensure civilization doesn’t run rampant over it.

Oath of Vengeance- These Paladins act as powerful vigilantes, almost always acting on their own volition. Occasionally they will work with others if it furthers their goals and some will even form bands of justice seekers taking the law into their own hands. These can vary from shadowy organizations enlisting the aid of thieves and assassins, to large warparties of angry peasants led by a vengeful figurehead.

Oath of Devotion

Level 3-
Channel Divinity: Sacred Weapon and Turn the Unholy-
You must complete your oath in a large temple to your god as part of a service attended by many (such as a worship service). During the ceremony the Paladin will say their oath and anoint their weapon with sacred oils and be granted a holy symbol by the church. After a personal prayer, the paladin will rise, face the crowd, holding their weapon aloft, and channel Sacred Weapon to show that their god has accepted their service.

Oath Spells-
After the ceremony the Paladin must spend an hour in silent prayer to receive their first spells.

Divine Health-
As part of the ceremony the Paladin will drink some of the anointed oil, purifying himself.

Oath Spells at 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th Level-

Throughout the course of your adventures you must exemplify each of the Tenets of Devotion through major actions you take other than Honesty which is upheld at all times. You may do so in any order, with each tenet connecting to one of the spell sets. To gain access to all spells you must exemplify all the tenet.

Level 7- Aura of Devotion
You must undertake a holy quest that will be brought to you by a servant of your god. Upon completion you will be granted this power.

Level 15- Purity of Spirit
You must slay a powerful evil creature who is acting directly against your god.

Level 20- Holy Nimbus
You must campaign to the Abyss or one of the 9 Hells and slay an Archdemon or Archdevil who is acting directly against your god.

Oath of the Ancients

Level 3-
Channel Divinity: Nature’s Wrath, Turn the Faithless
For your oath you must find an Elder Tree in a secluded grotto and perform a traditional rite while swearing your oath. An entity will appear, granting you your channelling abilities and your oath spells.

Divine Health- You must drink the sap of an Elder Tree

You must undertake a holy quest that will be brought to you by a servant of your deity. Upon completion you will be granted this power.

Level 15- Undying Sentinel

You must slay a powerful creature who seeks to destroy nature and life

Level 20- Elder Champion

You must create a Great Elder Tree seed and plant it.

Oath of Vengeance
Level 3-
Channel Divinity: Abjure Enemy, Vow of Enmity
For your oath you must successfully slay evildoers in retribution for a specific evil act they have committed. Upon slaying them you must anoint your weapon with their blood and yours and swear your oath.
Oath Spells- You must burn the bodies of these foes, using it as incense for an hour of prayer.
Divine Health- As above

Level 7- Relentless Avenger
Hunt down a previous foe who escaped you and has returned to doing evil. Ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Level 15- Soul of Vengeance

Kill a powerful leader who has wrought destruction on the land.

Level 20- Destroy a large population (At least 1000) that is beyond redemption and raze their property to the ground.
